Line 7 Ciqikou
(磁器口)

The mural at Ciqikou is a reference to ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’ (also translated as ‘A Dream of Red Mansions’) – one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels – written by Cao Xueqin. It was composed sometime in the middle of the 18th century during the Qing Dynasty. The book is believed to be semi-autobiographical, mirroring the rise and decline of author Cao Xueqin’s own family and, by extension, of the Qing Dynasty.

Cao Xueqin lived in the area now known as Ciqikou, but the house was demolished to make way for a road widening scheme.

Here's the station's name in calligraphy to be found on the platforms...

The fretwork design at the bottoms of the escalators...

is perfectly reflected at the tops of the platform support columns...

as well as in the glass fronted wall designs upstairs.
