A thousand years ago, during the Yan dynasty, the story goes that the emperor built a golden stage to attract local talent in order to seek advice from the very best of the best as to how to train the army to revive his dynasty.
And this glass engraving by Niu Tao is called ‘Beijing Sunset’. Unfortunately the LEDs that are meant to illuminate it from behind are often switched off, which means that many people don’t even notice it as they head for the escalator down to the platform.
