Beijing's Subway (Metro) Art

LINE 2 – Xuanwumen (宣武门)

Xuanwumen (literally ‘the gate of military might’) was a former gate in southern Beijing that was demolished in 1965 during the construction of the city’s subway.

This porcelain plate screen mural was designed by Wang Yingsheng from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts

Nearby is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, colloquially known as the Xuanwumen church. While the original foundations of the cathedral were laid in 1605, making it the oldest Catholic church in Beijing, the current building in Baroque style dates from 1904.
